Scholarship for students with special needs
The purpose of the scholarship for students with special needs is to support students with special needs upon the acquisition of higher education.
A scholarship for students with special needs can be applied for from the first semester of the academic year of matriculation by a student
... who is a citizen of Estonia or resides in Estonia on the basis of a permanent or temporary residence permit,
... whose period of study has not exceeded standard period of the curriculum or in part-time studies the double standard period of the curriculum,
... who has a moderate, severe or profound disability.
In order to apply for the scholarship, an application must be filled once an academic year and the scholarship is granted for ten months at a time. The scholarship for students with special needs can also be applied for and received during academic leave, in part-time studies and during the period of extension. In such an event, the amount of the scholarship is differentiated on the basis of the volume of curriculum completed by the student. A student in part-time studies receives the scholarship for students with special needs during the double standard period of the curriculum.
The amount of the scholarship for students with special needs depends on the degree of severity and type of the disability:
- 510 euros per month for a student with an abnormality in the hearing function corresponding to the profound or severe degree of disability;
- 148 euros per month for a student with an abnormality in the motor or visual function corresponding to the profound or severe degree of disability;
- 80 euros per month for a student with an abnormality in any other function not specified above corresponding to the profound or severe degree of disability;
- 325 euros per month for a student with an abnormality in the hearing function corresponding to the moderate degree of disability;
- 68 euros per month for a student with an abnormality in the motor or visual function corresponding to the moderate degree of disability;
- 60 euros per month for a student with abnormality in any other function not specified above corresponding to the moderate degree of disability.
For determining the degree of severity of disability in Estonia, a person has to submit a standard application for examination to Social Insurance Board.
To apply for the allowance, an application must be filled in the electronic environment on the homepage of the Archimedes Foundation at haridus.archimedes.ee/erivajadusega-uliopilaste-stipendium. Applications can be filed until 23 September in the autumn semester and until 20 February in the spring semester.
The scholarship can be applied for once an academic year: in the autumn semester for the entire academic year, i.e. for ten months, and in the spring semester provided that no application was submitted for the spring semester in the autumn, i.e. for five months. It is impossible to apply for the scholarship again in the spring semester even if the scholarship has been applied for less than ten months in the autumn.
The scholarship is paid by the 10th date of each month for the previous month (except August and September).
