On 16 May, the Estonian Doctoral School Career Conference will be held in Tallinn to discuss the value of doctoral studies and the career prospects of doctoral students. All Estonian doctoral students and those interested in doctoral studies are welcome to attend.

Toomas Plank to continue as Director of the Institute of Physics
On 6 November, the council of the Institute of Chemistry elected Research Fellow of Physical Chemistry Piret Pikma as the new head of the institute. Pikma will start work on 1 January 2024, when the term of office of the current director, Professor Enn Lust, ends.

University of Tartu starts training specialists to fight disinformation
Today starts the three-day IT Summer School ESSCaSS (Estonian Summer School on Computer and Systems Science), which brings more than 120 researchers, doctoral students and students from Estonia and abroad to the Delta Centre.
Thanks to cutting-edge research at the Institute of Computer Science, BetterMedicine, a company that automates the analysis of cancer CT scans, has received a boost. BetterMedicine was recently awarded a €2.5 million grant from the European Innovation Council's Accelerator.
At the meeting on 23 May, the Council of Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies elected Dr Kristiina Tõnnisson, Lecturer in Public Administration, for the position of Head of the Institute.
